Black Eyed Peas

On New Year’s Day, you can typically find people throughout the United States eating black-eyed peas and greens. This has become primarily a southern tradition for luck and prosperity in the New Year. There are variety of explanations for the symbolism of this dish – the dried peas swell when cooked, symbolizing prosperity; the color of greens symbolizes money and because pigs root forward when foraging, the pork represents positive motion. Here is to good luck, good health, prosperity and a wonderful New Year!
